THE WORLD'S FIRST JET PILOT

Dear Aviation & History Enthusiasts,

My father – Flight Captain Erich Warsitz – is remembered as the first person to fly an aircraft under turbojet power, the Heinkel He 178, on August 27, 1939 and also the first to fly an aircraft under liquid-fueled rocket power, the Heinkel He 176, on June 20 the same year, setting two milestones in aviation history.

Late in 1936 he was seconded by the RLM (Reich Air Ministry) to Wernher von Braun and Ernst Heinkel, because he had been recognized as one of the most experienced test-pilots of the time, and because he also had an extraordinary fund of technical knowledge. Little is known of this pioneer period because of the strict secrecy which shrouded the whole project!

It’s a little unfortunate that the He 178 quite often doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. After all, every other turbine propelled aircraft that has graced or is now gracing our skies has, at best, come second place to it.

Hello there,greetings from spain
im Alex. a spanish student (soon done with exams) of L.M.A. (equal to A&P FAA tittle or so, or aka "Aircraft Maintenance Technical").
L.M.A is aproved by EASA part 66 actually and it contains B1.1 , B1.2, B1.3 and B1.4 modules&submodules.

Few guys and me been thinking in moving to Australia to live there and stay few years (some of us got parents there)
well.the question is, supossing we have enought english knowledge and understand it pretty well, would our License be valid there like AME?, or should we study there and acquire a different license?

I hope some of u help me with those questions.

I've joined this site because I've had it with another aviation site, at ww2aircraft.net. At first I thought the site was great, but it turned out that some of the moderators act like hair-triggered primadonnas up to and including ridiculing you for your suspension by another moderator, when they know full well that at that point you can no longer respond to their ridicule (very unprofessional). If you say anything that goes against them, boom, you're suspended without any real explanation. I fully realise that forums have to have rules, and that posters are expected to abide by them, but if you're suspended without even a warning and without being told why you're suspended, it's hard to stop doing something when you don't even know what that something is. At any rate, for what it's worth, I cannot recommend this site, unless you're certain you'll never say anything that could possibly be considered controversial by their rather touchy moderators. I certainly hope that the moderators at this site are a little, well, more moderate and forgiving if someone innocently oversteps the bounds. I hope I haven't overstepped the bounds with this post! If I have, please tell me and I'll gladly mend my evil ways.

Recreational or Private?

Hey guys, I am going to start flying lessons at my local small airport this summer and I was wondering which program I should begin if I want to go to the Air Force Academy. A private pilot's license is more expensive to earn than a recreational license, but does it matter which one I choose if I want to apply to USAFA?

Air Force Academy/Pilot

It is my goal to attend the USAFA and become a fighter pilot. I will be a junior for the 08-09 school year. Can I do anything besides clubs, good grades, community service, good test scores, and leadership positions right now? If so, what? Also, I had a hole in my heart called an ASD (atrial septal defect). It was a relatively small hole and I had it closed a month ago. It has no effect on my performance at all. Will this stop me from being a pilot?

Hello, my name is Kenneth MacTiernan and I am the Director of a nonprofit organization called the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Association, AMTA. I am also a American Airlines Aircraft Maintenance Technician in San Diego, CA.

Almost every school teaches about Orville & Wilbur Wright and their accomplishments. But no one knows about Charles E. Taylor; the Wright brother's mechanic. Charles E. Taylor, or "Charlie", built by hand the first engines for the Wright Flyer from a block of steel with nothing more than a lathe, drill press, and some simple hand tools. And he did this all in 6 weeks.

Charlie worked in the Wright's bicycle shop and helped manufacture and assemble the parts for the Wright Flyer. If not for Charlie's contributions the Wright's and the United States would not have been the first in controlled powered flight.

Over 100 years have passed since the Wrights made aviation history. But Charles E. Taylor has been little more than a foot note. Even today's AMTs are not thought of. The AMTA was created to change that. I created the AMTA to promote to the public the knowledge, skill & integrity that each and every Aircraft Maintenance Technician uses whenever they touch an aircraft.
