Details: 

The Delta jet flipped upside down while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport. During touchdown, the right main gear collapsed, causing a fire and the right wing to contact the ground. The wing dragged along the runway surface after which the aircraft flipped inverted. A post crash fire was quickly contained by airport emergency services.
There were no fatalities among the 76 passengers and crew of four. About 18 people were injured. At the time of the crash there were 20 to 30 mph winds, with reported gusts up to 40 mph. As the passengers were being evacuated, the temperature was 18 degrees, with a wind chill temperature of minus 2.

The plane’s pilot had told air traffic control that he intended to enter a holding pattern while waiting for a runway to be cleared, Soon after, the aircraft experienced some kind of event which caused the plane to experience a rapid loss in elevation and a rapid loss in speed. It soon crashed on the sea ice about 35 mies southeast of Nome.
